Brenda G

Former Advertising Professional

I walked into the doors of last summer, not exactly knowing what to expect. I was going through a major life transition. I had had a very successful 15 year career in advertising that came to a screeching halt.  One minute, I'm an ad guru.  The next, I am a shell of the person I used to be. It took me 3 years to start to piece my life back together.  The concept of "what's next?" started weighing on my mind. Then, as if the Universe had matched us, I saw a Facebook post for I met with Cynthia, attended a few Girl's Nights In, went through the First Things First program and what I found was that I had a creative side I was longing to tap into. One of the exercises she had us do was write about what our perfect day would look like and do you know what? Mine is completely attainable. I was inspired and in December I pulled out my magazines and glue sticks and put together a vision board of what I want my life to look like. Again, completely attainable. inspired me to stop saying "maybe someday" and refocused me to say "why not now?" I'm currently in the process of writing a book and see a brighter future ahead for myself. My career in advertising is over, but I have a lot of life left to live. Thanks to Cynthia and for helping me realize this. It's truly a unique offering and I am grateful to have found it.

Janice R

is a single mom with two young daughters and needed a job.  Her girls aren't old enough to stay alone and she has no family in the area.  That and the fact that Janice doesn't drive made finding work difficult.  But we found a way and 7-weeks later she had a job that suited her daughter's school schedule and also was within biking distance.  We helped her get a re-purposed bike and a week's worth of new clothes.  We haven't lost touch with Janice; in fact her Guiding Light connects with her every week. This summer while her girls are visiting their grandparents, Janice will be taking driving lessons (We found a donor to cover those costs.) and working a full-time job to bank a little money.  There's lots of work that needs to be done, but she's up for the challenge and so are we.

recommendation from a volunteer

"Recently my son had an opportunity to interview for a job he really wanted.  It was a job which was going to have quite a bit of competition due to the salary and and opportunities it would present.  Needless to say he wanted to nail the interview.

I asked you if you could take a few minutes and offer me any advice I could pass on to him about how to prepare.   You kindly took the time to offer advice on some great questions he could ask and ways to “sell” himself so they would know  he was exactly what they were looking for.

I shared all your advice/suggestions with my son.    The interview day came and he felt it went really well and they told him that they would be making a decision in a few days.  They called him the next day and offered him the job!   They said it was a difficult decision between him and some other very qualified individuals but the deciding factor was how prepared, put together and polished he was.

I just want to say THANK YOU!   I believe it was your advice that helped him to stand out above the others."‘

"I was very pleasantly surprised to discover the scope of resources that brought to bear as we worked on my "re-branding."  In addition to very insightful understanding and thought provoking questions that really helped me clarify how I wanted to redefine myself and what I wanted to do and say about my future, the staff at created a revised logo for me, a new business card and a revised website, and helped me rewrite my bio.  The work was done pleasantly, professionally and in a timely fashion.  That the prices were so reasonable was a great benefit.  I would highly recommend to support anyone making a career transition.  They are well-versed in the options available and fully capable of providing a wide variety of kinds of support."

“Cynthia Wade is a natural coach and facilitator. She listened, observed both my verbal statements and nonverbal cues then illuminated my path. I found myself back at ground zero professionally and she provided simple tools designed to answer the questions: what do I really want to do and what's truly important to me.  My journey became less intimidating with her support and her focus on accountability. Sharing her experience as an executive level recruiter with me was invaluable during my process as she has incredible insight to current practices and trends. I love being able to share my experience with my circle and would strongly encourage anyone in a state of flux to reach out and get her in your corner."

"I came to a lot os IMPROV, which I enjoyed.

"She said that I was looking in the wrong places; look at these instead.  And that was very helpful because it opened a much broader world that I was aware of."

"In the time I spent at, Cynthia has helped me redefine my personal and profession skills in an effort to make myself more marketable for a positive and successful career change.  With a diverse work history, limited experience and an uncertain direction Cynthia quickly helped me to get my professional profile up to speed by polishing my resume, updating my linked in page and using it to my bennefit.

"I am so excited! I recommend everyone to try this (IMPROV) out. Even though I worked in public relations and marketing, I was nervous when I first took the leap to try improv. I can honestly say, the experience was life changing. I don't think I'd be going so far out of my comfort zone - starting a new career, moving to a new state and taking a chance on my relationship - if it weren't for the confidence I gained in these workshops! I've learned to trust that I can react when life throws me something unexpected. Thank you!"

Update on Jeff F

"I have a job with Torrey Pines Bank in their Beverly Hills branch. I really like this bank, very progressive, employee friendly and they do the kinds of complicated real estate loans that I like. Parent company is an $11 billion bank.

Kathi put her townhouse on the market and got a full price offer in one day.  We are approved for a nice apartment in the Westwood area of LA, about 3.5 miles to the bank.  Rents are so damn high on the westside of LA, we feel we found a bargain at $3,350/month for a 1400 sq.ft. unit.  It is right next to a park with a pool and the swim team I plan to join works out there.  Kathi works at home and being in LA should make calling on customers much easier for her.  Now I just need to sell two Chicago area houses, Dan Czuba has the listing on the West Chicago house.  And yes, lots of smiles, we are very happy together."

Update on Paul G

"I’m glad Paul got in touch with you last week. He is definitely feeling better about himself now that he is working. We’re very proud of the changes he’s making for himself. Larry and I sincerely thank you and for the consistent support you provided. It was invaluable and very therapeutic for him. He actually told me that you were more helpful than Dr. Rob (his clinical social worker)!
I happened to catch Cynthia Wade speaking to our local city council as she worked to spread the word about  I was struck by her confidence and persistence as she sought tangible support from council.  More than just impressed, I had a personal reason to be interested in the services of My 21-year old son who has a disability had been reeling from the loss of a job and lacked confidence and motivation to find another position. My son’s meetings with Cynthia were confidence-building and always ended with a Next Steps List to keep him on task. In addition to helping him prepare a resume, Cynthia regularly followed-up and stayed connected to make sure progress was being made. These supports and resources were what helped my son eventually get an interview and get hired for part-time work.  We are so grateful to Cynthia and her organization and plan to make use of other resources in the future."

"Since 1994 to 2002 I worked for the government in my country, Honduras. In 2003 I was working with municipalities as a financial consultant traveling throughout my country. It was in one of these trips that I met the lady that now is my wife. I moved to the United States to get married in 2011. Since 2012, I have been working for a company that restores wood furniture; I also started taking English classes at College of DuPage. I was working as a craftsman for more the 2 years and I felt that I needed to change my career.   I was doing the same thing since I started working for the company, without the possibility for advancement. I also wanted to continue learning English, that way I can go into a program in Joliet Junior College. One day my father in law told me about, and I had the good fortune to work with Cynthia Wade. She started by helping me with my resume. She also helped me to create my LinkedIn and Indeed profiles. She helped me to register at Joliet Junior College. We were working for more the three months applying for jobs and she always was very patient with me and focused to help me with my English limitations. Finally I got a job interview and Cynthia gave me a thorough preparation for that. I am very grateful for all the help that she has provided me. I got a new job!.  It's full time, offers benefits and opportunities for advancement"

"I came from France around 1980 and have never stopped trying to improve myself. I received an Associated Degree, a Bachelor and later an MBA, hoping to increase my chances to succeed, in what is known as the Land of Opportunities. I felt that, because  I had wings, I should fly. However, each time, I attempted to reach new heights it ended up in disappointment. In fact, in August, I was let go from my job and  was devastated, losing hope, losing self-worth. Then I met Cynthia.  What a blessing, a ray of hope. Her authenticity, sincerity and willingness to help me was so refreshing. Our weekly calls and her advice allowed me to recapture confidence. Consequently, I recently a found a job in customer service. I understand that this may not be my dream job but I will once again try to reach new heights which hopefully will lead to successful career.  And Cynthia isn't going anywhere.  She's still supporting me.  Thank you, Cynthia"

Charlotte C.

After a decades-long career at a Fortune 50 firm, I found myself in job search as a result of company downsizing. Although friends and family were supportive and I was fortunate to have outplacement services
provided by my former employer, I felt the need to engage a career coach who would spend individual time with me and focus on my specific needs.  Enter Cynthia Wade! Cynthia gave me the one-on-one attention I craved.  She's a quick study and understood me right away. She was effective at both strategic and tactical advice. She was encouraging, as well as comfortable administering tough love when it was needed to keep me on track. And, when the perfect job opportunity came along, Cynthia was with me every step of the way, providing helpful advice on everything from resume tuning to offer negotiation. Happily, I am employed again!

Mary E. - The First Flying PIG

"My name is Mary and I am 24 years old. As an individual who was struggling to get through an interview because of a lack of confidence, I felt it was time to seek out help. This is when I met Cynthia. She took the time to get to know me, to see what would be the best approach to help me succeed in interviews. She worked with me to become more confident in my abilities to communicate with interviewers. She went great lengths to make sure that I was prepared for interviews. For example, I had grown comfortable with mock interviews with Cynthia so she brought someone else  in to help. This showed the dedication and passion she has for wanting me to succeed.  Because of working with Cynthia, I feel more confident in my interviewing skills. I told Cynthia at the end of our first meeting that I would be her most challenging candidate and she took the challenge and we have found great success together.  I got a job"
