"My challenge is what drives me, and I won't let my challenge defeat my spirit."

When we face challenges in life, we sometimes take the easy way out. It is much easier to tell ourselves we cannot do something because the odds aren’t in our favor than to struggle through. But we shouldn’t let poor odds stop us.

To be clear, although I have faced challenges in my life, I’ve also faced privilege as a white, heterosexual, able-bodied, cis* gender female, who has had opportunities before me and the means to work toward them.  Still there are times when I feel as though I should give up because the obstacle seems too big.

Last week I had the privilege of talking with an incredibly inspirational man who has faced challenges many people will never face. Has that stopped him from achieving his goals and dreams? No.  The quote that is the headline of this post?  That's what he said to me.

The man that I am referring to is right here in Batavia and will be one of the many Faces showcased for Faces of the Fox. The odds may not be in his favor at all times, but he does not let that stand in his way. Talking with him has inspired me to work harder to achieve my goals and dreams. Look for Faces of the Fox this summer and come read about some of the inspirational people that live in the Fox Valley.
