do-over.me's Incredible Impact on My Life

Happy Thanksgiving,

The season of lights is upon us. As do-over.me's Director of Communications, I wanted to share my do-over.me story with you.

do-over.me has left an incredible impact on my life. For five years after college, I struggled to find work. Despite a degree from a prestigious college, no one was willing to take a chance on me...until Cynthia.

It’s funny to think it was just a year ago when a friend showed me a job posting for do-over.me that said, “must love dogs”, featuring a picture of the do-over.me dog, Bella. My heart melted when I saw Bella’s darling features--however, I was reluctant. For years after college, I’d spend countless hours applying for jobs to the point where finding a job felt like a job.

It was humiliating to constantly apply only to be rejected.

I remember days when I’d lie in my bed, scrolling through Google desperate to find a community that understood me. It wasn’t like I was trying to be unemployed.

I was so worried when I went in for my interview at do-over.me that I would once again get rejected.

...but Cynthia and Bella surprised me when they took a chance on me.

This past year with do-over.me has been an extraordinary new era for me. As do-over.me’s first Communications Director, I’ve been able to help over 30 people in the Fox Valley Community find employment.

I know what it’s like to go through the humiliating cycle of trying to find work. I never want anyone to go through that.

That’s why I believe in do-over.me.

There are so few community centers that actually look at the unemployed the way that do-over.me does. do-over.me understands the frustration and humiliation that comes with the job search. It’s a community founded on the belief that everyone--no matter their station in life--deserves the same chances.

95% of the members who use the do-over.me program achieve success and bolster our economy.

The world needs more nonprofits like do-over.me. However, at present, there’s only one.

This Giving Tuesday, do-over.me is participating in #ILGive. We’re pledging to raise $5,555 in honor of our 5th anniversary.

Listen, I know there’s no shortage of charitable organizations you can make a tax-deductible donation to--but when I think of how do-over.me has not only changed my life but the lives of my neighbors in this community, I know what they do is invaluable.

It’s my dream that do-over.me will continue to grow and to help the more than 21,387 people in Kane County facing unemployment. Your donation will help.
