Sheryl Sandberg, author of Lean In lost her husband unexpectedly in 2015. She is a mother of two young girls and also the COO of Facebook. That she has a lot on her plate is probably an understatement. That it would be challenging to grieve in private and take the spotlight off as she rebuilt her life was probably unrealistic.
Sandberg has emerged with the answers in a new book, Option B that was published late late month. There's already a website, optionb.org. I bet she already has lots and lots of followers.
do-over.me is a small NFP located 40 miles west of Chicago. We were founded 3 years ago, as I came out of a very difficult period in my life and realized the importance of being able to move on to Plan B when Plan A didn't work out. I'm not famous. I haven't written a book...yet, but I get this. I also get the financial challenges that Sheryl Sandberg probably didn't face, which is why do-over.me has worked to make its services affordable to everyone. Bottom line. We get it. We can help. You don't have to do this alone. Please check out our web site. Come visit. Better yet, just pick up the phone and call me at 630-402-0429. I'm a good listener.
Option B is a brand new book written by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant. The subtitle, Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy are really the core of the book's message. Sandberg partnered with one of do-over.me's favorite authors, Adam Grant to write this book. Together they share personal insights and also the work of Martin E.P. Seligman, considered by many to be the father of positive psychology.
I just ordered this book. I'm going to read it. In the meantime, here's a great summation from a The Atlantic magazine interview.
There's also an article in the NY Times. I bet there will be a TED talk soon. In the meantime, here's one of the most important pieces of advice from the book. "Kick the shit out of option B." The important word here - KICK! It's an action word and the single most important part of this message. If you want something to change, you can't just rad the book, you have to start kicking.
