Nearly half of all tech workers fear losing their job due to age, Axios writes, with almost 20% saying they “worry about it all the time.” According to a study from HR analytics firm Visier, age discrimination in tech isn’t about performance: Older tech workers are more likely to get high performance ratings than their younger counterparts, even though they’re hired at lower levels than in non-tech industries.
But age discrimination is an issue outside of tech as well — 22.8% of employment discrimination complaints filed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission last year were age-related, and economist David Neumark saw patterns of age discrimination across roles in a study of 40,000 job applications.
