We believe in second chances. do-over.me was created to serve the Fox River Valley community to help people who are dealing with any type of life transition.
“We help people who need to make changes in their lives due to a career change, death, divorce, empty nest, voluntary retirement or a health scare,” says Founder Cynthia Wade.
Wade met many people who were attempting to transition to something very different. The severity of the transition often paralyzed them with fear, she added. “They were afraid to move forward because changes were going to have to be made that would change their life drastically,” Wade said.
Started in 2014, do-over.me is designed to help people understand what happened and help them determine where to go next to achieve their dreams, Wade said.
Wade helped St. Charles resident Allen R when he unexpectedly was rifted from a company where he had worked for 20+ years. As the shock wore off, Rickel was unsure of where to start in regaining his career footing. He turned to do-over,me who helped him clarify options, update his resume and LinkedIn profiles, brush up on interviewing skills and most importantly regain his confidence in himself and his abilities. Allen is now working again in a new field and is genuinely happy with the changes.
Aurora resident Jason S is a college student who needed to secure an internship as part of graduation requirements. He came to do-over.me because he was not getting the one-on-one help that he needed from his school. At do-over.me, in addition to revising both his resume and LinkedIn profile, Jason did a mock interview which was videotaped. In watching the video, Jason learned a significant amount about how better to behave in those key interview situations. Jason got his summer internship and will be returning to do-over.me when he is closer to graduation to prepare for his first career job.
Paul G is a Batavia resident and community college student who has some special needs. He's very smart, but needs a very structured work environment with a lot of initial training to be successful at work. After leaving his first job because it didn't provide an environment where he could be successful, Paul found his way to do-over.me. He worked with Wade to learn the kinds of things to look for in a new job opportunity that would lead to his success in the role. His confidence built as he realized he could have a successful job in the right situation. He ultimately started work again. He's there full time this summer, and will be going to part-time in the fall when school starts again.
One-on-one coaching, resume writing assistance and improv classes are some of do-over.me’s services. Improv classes are important, she said. “It is a fabulous opportunity to stay in the moment and leave their baggage at the door,” she said. Having concluded a series of classes on laughter and play, Wade said that, as adults, it is important to continue to laugh.
“Everybody’s recipe for success is different,” Wade said, but do-over.me works with the whole person, including spiritual, emotional, physical and cognitive elements.
The organization is really unique because it addresses more than just the employment aspect, she said. “We work on both career mapping and life mapping, which are two separate things,” Wade said.
She said helping people identify their natural gifts and turn that knowledge into a paid position is a big part of her mission. “People will do their best work and be the most satisfied when they are using their natural gifts,” she said.
